Sirens

Marina Murayama Nir

2017

I wrote “Sirens” after overhearing a business executive- in response to the protests following the election- say that fear is a mental game, and that people will only be afraid if they allow themselves to be.

It’s about the frustration I feel knowing that in many cases I won’t be heard unless I’m shouting, sometimes, even to the people closest to me.

It’s about being connected to narratives void of safety and understanding.
